Marriage Equality

Tassie might be set to be the first state in Australia to legalise Same-Sex Marriage. I'm all for it, too.

But can I just raise a tiny issue here?

I've been married to my wife for over 9 years. It's been fantastic. Sure, there are some rough patches, but they are just tiny weeds in a beautiful garden. (That's an inside joke for her.)

This marriage is one of the most important and amazing things that has ever happened to me. I know that now as much as I knew it all those years ago when I blubbered and bawled my way through the reading of my vows.

So, can we please STOP demeaning marriage as a way of justifying that it's not anything special (and therefore homosexuals might as well have it)? Seriously guys, it's like sharing a basket of apples with someone because half of them are rotten anyway.

I have friends and family who are homosexual. I love them with all of my heart and I want them to be able to share the happiness and fulfilment that the institution of marriage has brought me. Sure, there are people out there like Kim Kardashian and Britney spears that make a mockery of it. But let's face it; just because a few people out there drive their Porsches like idiots, doesn't mean that sports cars are any less desirable to those of us who can only dream of having one.

Agreed. I've never understood how someone can believe that two people in love with one another, regardless of their gender, can be a bad thing. So ignorant.
